Nakuru Woman Representative Liza Chelule has weighed in on the ongoing debate on the Mau evictions.
Addressing journalists on Wednesday at her Nakuru office, the woman rep lauded the government over the Tuesday order to re-open the 15 schools that were shut down to allow students to sit their national examinations.
According to Chelule, the move is in order as no student will be affected during the exam period.
“As leaders, we have met and the meeting has seen the government revert the earlier order of closing down 15 schools in Mau to allow students to sit their exams,” said Chelule.
While reiterating the sentiments of other leaders that after the national examinations the exercise of evicting the families that are staying in the forest should be done in a more humane manner, the Nakuru Woman Rep maintained that the families are innocent.
Chelule said the families that are being evicted from the Mau forest have title deeds which they were given by the government, adding that there should be mechanisms put in place to address the issue.
“The families have land ownership documents issued by the government and therefore the matter should be handled in a more humane manner;” said Chelule.
