A man has been arraigned in a Thika court for neglecting his wife and four children.

The man has allegedly left the family for the second wife whom they have been married for six months.

Josphat Otieno appeared before resident magistrate Martha Mutuku and charged with neglecting the family at makongeni estate of Thika Sub County within Kiambu County.

The complainant Jackline Otieno told the court the that her husband had been married to a second wife for six months now and since then he stopped caring for her and their four children who are all in school.

Ms Otieno told the court that she is jobless and she is now struggling to provide for her children.

She added that she has tried to pressure her husband to pay school fees and to provide other basic needs but instead the husband has been arrogant and did not care of her and her children.

“I seek directions of the court for my husband to provide the basic needs and pay school fees for the children. I did not provoke his marrying of another wife and furthermore I still love him but he makes me suffer with the burden of raising the children alone,” Ms Otieno said.

The prosecution told the court that the accused person should be compelled to maintain his family and make a declaration to commit himself as stated in the marriage act man to provide and take care of his family.

The court set a hearing date for October 21 to determine the case.
