For the first time since the allegations of a plot to assassinate Deputy President William Ruto surfaced, Interior PS Karanja Kibicho came face to face with Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen.
While Kibicho has been accused of being the architect of the plot, Murkomen has been criticising suspected masterminds in the matter that caught the country by shock.
On Friday in Central Kenya, the two officers sat side by side during the burial of Ann Wangechi, the grandmother to ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru.
Besides Kibicho, Mucheru, James Macharia and Peter Munya are among the powerful people who were dragged into the assassination saga.
The powerful PS on Monday dismissed the claims for the first time, adding that no official statement had been recorded by DP Ruto.
"I would be very reserved in responding to useless and baseless allegations because they're under police investigations. We are really credited with some intelligence; we have some brains better than what we are hearing. It’s unfortunate that our country can occupy space and space of our media talking about imaginations," he said.
"You know I hear assassination claims, who has complained? I am yet to hear someone who has complained,” said Kibicho.
Last week, Murkomen condemned the arrest of former State House Digital Communication Director Dennis Itumbi, who was accused of manufacturing the letter which raised alarm over the assassination claims.
"Arrest of @OleItumbi is a strategy to divert attention from the La Mada meeting&plan. Was there a meeting? Did PS in charge of DCI say Ruto must be stopped Saitoti way? Who complained about assassination? And to who? The authenticity of the allegations is more important than a letter," he said.
