A Moi University student who was found dead under mysterious circumstances was buried on Monday at their home in Mohotetu village, Laikipia County.
The body of 22-year-old Japheth Mungai was found hanging from a rooftop of a lecture hall at the Kesses-based institution in what was suspected to be a suicide case.
Mystery, however, surrounded the death of the second-year Bachelor of microbiology student as his hands were tied when the body was discovered raising questions on whether it was a case of suicide or murder.
Members of the bereaved family are now calling for justice to be served for the late Japheth Mungai.
Monica Mungai, the mother of the deceased, registered her disappointment with the manner in which the institution handled the case.
“We are very bitter with the manner in which the university’s management handled the case. We are surprised that the university has remained silent since the incident occurred till date when we are burying our son,” she stated.
The deceased's father, Charles Mungai, on the other hand, claimed they had not received any communication from the police.
"Today I am burying my son while his killers are eating, sleeping and walking scot-free out there. It is now one week since the incident occurred and nothing has been done neither have the police communicated to us on the progress [of investigations],” he said.
According to information from Kesses Sub-County Police Commander Harun Muriasi, police still maintain that it was a suicide case. They, nonetheless, launched an investigation into the case.
