Nairobi Members of County Assembly (MCAs) allied to the ruling Jubilee Party have thrown their weight behind the party's candidate in the Kibra race McDonald Mariga.
Under the leadership of House Majority Leader Abdi Hassan, the group on Monday said that it will launch its campaigns in a bid to enable Mariga to carry the day.
Mr Hassan said that their plan is to take over the seat which has for years been under the opposition side, with the main campaign plan being door-to-door campaigns.
“Going forth, we are going to be conducting door-to-door campaigns in Kibra to make sure that Mariga garners more than enough support to win the Kibra legislative seat,” he said.
Mr Hassan opined that Mariga is the best man for the job, adding that he properly fits the requirements of Kibra residents, based on his youthfulness.
He further observed that the footballer knows the exact needs of the residents, hence the support for his candidature ahead of the November 7 by-election.
"Mariga is the best-placed candidate to represent Kibra constituency mainly comprised of the youth. He understands the problems in the area and has the backing of the party in implementing his manifesto,” he added.
According to Mr Hassan, Mariga's candidature will not dent President Uhuru Kenyatta's handshake with Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga.
Raila's party has since fronted Imran Okoth to vie in the mini polls, as it seeks to retain a position it has held since its formation in the 2010 constitution.
A number of Jubilee Party members have abandoned Mariga in favour of Imran.
