Residents of Kibauni, Machakos County have called upon the Kenya Power and Lightning Company (KPLC) to restore back electricity in the area, after being in a blackout for over one week.
Led by Kaloki Mung'ala, the residents on Tuesday said the over one-week blackout was caused by an electric pole that fell near Katulani market.
The residents urged KPLC to hasten and restore electricity since they were finding it difficult to cope without lights.
"Kenya power should hear our cries we are tired of being in the dark at night," said Mung'ala.
The residents further noted that businesses that rely on electricity are being inconvenienced, since they cannot proceed with their services as usual.
"Even churches are forced to use generators during service but those who don't have one are left to suffer," he said.
Mung'ala further noted that the blackout could attract criminals to start engaging in illegal activities in the area.
"We are fearing for our security at night because we have people from other regions who have come for the festivities. We are afraid cases of insecurity may be reported as thugs may take advantage of the dark," he added.
