Mitaboni location chief Joshua Wambua has decried an increase in defilement and rape cases in the area.
The chief observed that many cases of women being raped and children defiled have been reported lately. He said this as he confirmed an incident where a 22-year-old pregnant woman was raped by unknown assailants on Sunday night at around 9pm.
Chief Wambua noted that the suspects waylaid the woman as she was heading home from work where they attacked her and raped her afterwards.
Wambua confirmed the suspects have not been arrested yet but the police have launched a manhunt for them. He promised the residents to ensure the suspects are brought to book once apprehended.
He, however, asked residents to work closely with the police in the fight against crime in the area. The woman who was badly hurt was treated at Kathiani hospital.
