The fate of a Kisumu-based radio presenter facing charges of defilement will be known today when a ruling is made at the Kisumu law courts.
Abisalom Omollo, who was earlier released on a bond of Sh100,000, is said to have committed the offence on November 24 last year at Poly view estate in Kisumu town.
He is accused of defiling a 14-year-old Aga Khan primary school student. He faced a second count of indecently fondling the minor’s private parts.
Omollo had gone into hiding after he is said to have committed the offence but he was later captured by the police.
Earlier, Kisumu chief magistrate Lucy Gitari had summoned a doctor who had examined the girl to testify before the court before giving a ruling.
The prosecution had already closed its case after the girl, her father, and the police officer who investigated the case had testified.
She said it would be unwise to rule on the case without getting a full medical report from the doctor who examined the class seven girl.
However, appearing as a prosecution witness, a clinical officer from the Kisumu district hospital, who claimed to have handled more than ten rape cases including the one before the court, could not clearly ascertain whether or not the hypothetical victim was indeed raped, according to his medical examination.
During the previous hearings, a doctor who represented Kisumu East district hospital told the court that according to the medical report, the girl had not been defiled.
It is this reason that led to the summoning of the doctor who examined the victim to ascertain whether the girl was indeed raped or not.
