Former Mwingi Central Member of Parliament Joe Mutambu has said that the already rising political temperatures in the country are nothing compared to what is still on its way.
Intense campaigns, especially for the presidential seat, have been in progress lately, the bulk of it being linked to Deputy President William Ruto whose allies have been politicking.
But Mutambu on Wednesday said that Kenyans should expect some very serious campaigns six months to the elections, as then all the realignments will have been done.
"What is happening now is just air, nothing yet. Alignments and directions will be seen six months to the polls. There is nothing yet (Saa hii hakuna kitu, hizi ni hewa tu. Mirengo na mwelekeo mtaona zikiwa zimebaki miezi sita, hizi ni vishindo tu, bado hakuna kitu)," he said.
Mutambu, a Jubilee Party member, made the remarks on Radio Citizen's Pata Shika on Wednesday night.
Ruto has been under attacks from opposition politicians over the many presidential endorsements being heaped on him by his allies, which his critics have termed early campaigns.
However, the DP has since denied engaging in early campaigns, saying that he is only doing his job as the President's Assistant.
But Mutambu says that despite calls by President Uhuru Kenyatta for politicians to shun the 2022 debate for now and concentrate on development, no changes should be expected.
"From now until 2021 you will be told everything, then you will see a political year, people will be scattered. (Kuanzia saa hii hadi 2021 December story mtaipata. Ikifika hapo ndio mtaona mwaka wa siasa, watu wataenda huku na huko)," he added.
