Lawyer Ahmednassir Abdullahi has weighed in on President Uhuru Kenyatta's succession debate. Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV on JKLive Wednesday night, Ahmednassir said that Deputy President William Ruto is not guaranteed to get the support of the President when that time comes.

He argued that the head of the state can decide not to endorse Ruto for the seat after the completion of his second and final term.

The lawyer advised Ruto to rethink his presidential bid in the event that Uhuru dumps him for another candidate. He also noted that the two leaders can enjoy working together for the remaining period of their leadership but this does not translate to endorsement at the end of the day.

"The situation is not as it is used to be. The President can decide to not support DP in 2022 but he has no right to stop the DP from looking for votes. They can have a working relationship but they do not have to be friends," he said.

The handshake between Uhuru and Raila has caused a storm in Jubilee.

Speculations are rife that Uhuru will abandon Ruto at the last minute. Uhuru has, however, insisted that he has not promised Raila any form of support before that time. Raila has also maintained that he has not shown interest in the nation's top seat.
