The chairlady of Kamirithu Voluntary Workers, Betty Kimani has led a clean–up exercise of Limuru town and urged residents to strive to live in a clean environment.

She said that cleanliness is an important aspect to the wellbeing of the residents urged the residents to maintain high standards of hygiene in a bid to eradicate diseases especially waterborne diseases.

“Cleanliness is the gateway to a heathy nation,” said Kimani.

She said that the residents should not wait all the time for the county government to provide clean-ups but they should form the habit of volunteering themselves in communal work.

During the clean-up the residents were educated on the need to maintain hygienic standards.

Kimani urged the county government to allocate more funds for garbage collection to make the town clean.

“Kamirithu town has shortage of garbage collection trucks which is making difficult the efficiency of garbage collection,” said Kimani.

She revealed that her group which includes more than 40 volunteers will be conducting a clean-up every month.

She also appealed for more members to be included in the group to benefit the residents.
