The two leaders reconciled in 2018, catching most of their aides unaware, a move that is yet to be appreciated by all of them from either side.

In the process, the two set a Building Bridges Initiative which is expected to come with resolutions on how to settle persistent election crisis in the country.

On Sunday, the Chama Cha Mashinani leader said that politicians should embrace the fact that others can lead, adding that it is needless to develop animosity towards one another.

The former county boss said leaders should bury hatchet immediately after elections to avoid subjecting Kenyans to unacceptable suffering.

"I have continuously supported Building Bridges Initiative. I have even demonstrated to the Bishop. We should create a culture in this country where we compete and immediately after elections we shake hands.

"Let us not subject Kenyans to suffering because we don't want to accept that others can also lead. Let's relax. I have contributed to BBI and I want a few things fixed," said Ruto.

The Rift Valley political bigwig also said the BBI should recommend a scenario where by ministers are also MPs, a typical replica of the previous constitution.

While a section of leaders from Rift Valley are opposed to changes being spearheaded by BBI team, Ruto said time has come for the country to embrace change and tolerance.

Mr Ruto had initially shown signs of working with DP William Ruto but has since leaned towards Raila and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, setting a tough battle ahead.
