Muranga Governor Mwangi wa Iria has led a Kenyan delegation to Colombia in a quest to promote the sale of Kenyan avocados in the foreign market.
Wa Iria and Avocado Society of Kenya officials on Monday met the Avocado World Congress steering committee.
They will also be attending the Avocado World Congress in the Colombian capital of Medellin, a trip expected to see them return with more skills on productive markets.
They are also expected to use the trip to network on behalf of Kenyan avocado farmers, considering that they will be meeting other key players in the sector.
This was confirmed by the county boss who added that he will also lobby for Kenya to join the China Fruit Logistica and Asia Fruit Logistica, which will avail an even bigger market.
“This is great news to the avocado industry especially after Kenya has gained the green light to enter the Chinese market. I will campaign for Kenya to become part of Asia Fruit Logistica and China Fruit Logistica to get more market for our fruits given that Kenyan farmers have embraced avocado farming,” he said.
The congress will host presentations of scientific research touching on the crop and workshops, with Wa Iria saying that he has taken it upon himself to ensure that Kenyan avocados access the global market.
