The students have since been accused of masterminding the unrest that led to the damage of property of unknown value at the institution.

The students include Masinde Muliro University Students Organisation (Mmuso) Chairman Vincent Lumala, Treasurer, Amon Tarus and  the Secretary General Gerald Maina.

The suspension of the students was confirmed on Tuesday through a memo issued by the acting registrar Academic Affairs Prof Thomas Sakwa.

“Pursuant to Section 2.1 (b) and (c) of the Masinde Muliro University Science and Technology(Mmust) Rules and Regulations governing the conduct and discipline of students, the 81st Regular Senate meeting sitting on Wednesday 2nd October 2019, resolved to suspend 19 students listed below from the university with immediate effect pending disciplinary process for causing student unrest and destruction of property within the university,” read part of the Memo, as quoted by Daily Nation.

The management has now asked the affected students to remain out of the institution until further notice. The students went on rampage over fee deadline among other grievances.

They are set to appear before the Senate to defend themselves following the suspension.  The affected students have vowed to move to court after they were suspended.

This comes after Kenyatta University was also closed indefinitely after students rioted demanding for the resignation of the Vice Chancellor Paul Wainana.
