Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has raised concern over the rising cases of teenage pregnancies in the country.
Speaking on Tuesday at the University of Embu after launching the International Youth Week, Magoha said that parents are partly to blame for the rampant cases of teenagers who are becoming pregnant.
He said that parents have failed the ministry of education by not advising children as far as sexual matters are concerned.
He said that it is sad to note that the cases of teenage pregnancies have been on the rise when parents are just there watching their children drop out of school.
He also said that unless parents rise to the occasion these cases will continue to be reported. Magoha said many school-going girls have been forced to drop out of school after they became pregnant.
He reminded parents to support other education stakeholders to ensure that the children get the best standards.
"When teenagers get pregnant they drop out of school and their life is wasted. Parents should be responsible enough and regularly advice their young ones," he said, as quoted by Daily Nation.
Magoha reiterated that President Uhuru Kenyatta-led government is committed to helping youths fulfill their dreams in life, adding that pregnancies among teens have been a great challenge in his leadership.
