The Thursday protests resulted in the death of one person while properties of unknown value were destroyed.

According to the police, over 500 angry residents in Itumbi area burned down properties belonging to one of the seven murder suspects, Michael Gitonga Mbogo alias Mbuu.

They also killed a cow and two goats belonging to his mother.

Another suspect, David Kinyua, 35 years old,  was burned to death at Kiamuringa Centre by angry residents.

A police report seen by Citizen Digital on Friday indicates that the residents overpowered the police in the rampage.

“Police from Kithimu and Itabua tried in vain to restrain further damage to property as they were targeting some sympathizers,” reads a police report on the incident.

The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti has now launched investigations into the incident.

The seven suspects had been charged with robbery with violence. However, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) argued that the court should have charged them with murder.
