According to the 'Muje' hitmaker, she has always been afraid of boarding the ferry. She claimed that whenever she boards the ferry she tries her best to ensure that her car is parked in the middle of others on the ferry. Her stubbornness on several occasions has made the ferry operators think that she is rude.

Akothee who is passionate about motherhood while mourning the death of Mariam Kigenda and her daughter Amanda Mutheu claimed that it was sad that lives were lost during the incident.

"Mombasa is my second home Diani is my 3rd home, I basically live and operate with Ferry more than anything else. Whenever I want to rest or visit my investments 😭😭😭😭😭😭, the fear I have on that ferry beats the odds of turbulence 😭😭, the ferry operators always think I am rude 🙏🏾It's such a sad thing to lose lives just like that, I have always wanted to park in the middle of other cars , and trying not to be the first or the last 😭😭😭😭😭This cut so deep 🙆‍♂️🙆‍♂️ but when death knocks our doors, even new breaks fail & we cant Say no 😭😭😭 May their soul rest in peace. Heartfelt condolence to the family," Akothee wrote on her Instagram page.

Kenyan radio presenter Massawe Japanni who was born and raised in Mombasa also joined Akothee in mourning the victims of the Sunday evening accident. Massawe who took to the comment section of Akothee's Instagram post blamed the accident on the incompetence of the ferry management and operators.

"Unnecessary deaths. So painful. I can imagine what the mother was saying to her daughter in the process of drowning..The fear in her eyes when she knew she couldn't help them out. Her heart racing..Just maybe help was coming...*Shutseyes* Incompetence at its core," Massawe Japanni's comment read.
