Makueni County Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr has reacted to Cabinet Secretary (CS) Henry Kiplagat Rotich’s arrest and arraignment to court over the alleged Sh21 Billion Arror and Kimwarer dams scandal.
Rotich alongside other suspects among them his Principal Secretary (PS) Kamau Thugge were arraigned before Milimani Anti Corruption court on Tuesday.
Reacting to their arraignment, Senator Kilonzo Jnr said that the dock has humbled CS Rotich and other senior government official’s implicated in the dams scandal.
"The dock in COURT 1 is very humbling. The chicken thief, drunk and disorderly suspect, billionaire, Cabinet Secretary are equal before the Chief Magistrate,” Senator Kilonzo Jnr tweeted on Tuesday.
In his tweet, the youthful Makueni senator added, “Egos take a beating.Those of us in positions of leadership must remember power and it trappings are transient.”
On Monday, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji approved the arrest and prosecution of CS Rotich and 27 other suspects.
The DPP said that he has concrete evidence to prosecute the suspects who face charges of conspiring to defraud the government, abuse of office, willful failure to adhere to procurement regulations among others.
Appearing in court on Tuesday, CS Rotich, PS Thugge and other suspects pleaded not guilty to the graft charged charges leveled against them by the DPP.
Milimani Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti is expected to deliver a ruling on their application for bond and bail at 4.30 pm today.
