Kesses Member of Parliament Dr Swarup Mishra has hit out at Third way Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot over his proposal dubbed ‘Punguza Mizigo', aimed at amending the constitution.
According to Mishra, the proposal is ill-intended, a joke and will not help the common mwananchi.
“I want to tell this man Ekuru Aukot to first contest for an election and win before he tells Kenyans what to do since he doesn’t know what Kenyans want,” Mishra said.
The lawmaker was speaking at ACK St Luke Cheptiret, during a funds drive for five local churches.
Mishra further noted that the proposal lacked public participation, and urged county assemblies to exercise caution while discussing it.
“He should take care of Turkana first since his people are in dire need of food, instead of involving himself in politics of changing the constitution which he cannot handle,” he opined.
The legislator claimed that the Punguza Mizigo bill will take away the rights of youths, people living with disabilities and women.
The Punguza Mizigo initiative is steered by the Thirdway Alliance party under the leadership of Aukot.
The proposed bill intends to reduce the number of elected and nominated leaders in the country.
