The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics could be forced to make explanations over the data results for census unveil on Monday at State House.
President Uhuru Kenyatta unveiled the census report, which put the country's population at 47.6 million, an increase of around 9 million people from the last census results.
Nyamira population was placed at 605,000 people, a small increase from 598,000 people in 2009 when the country conducted census.
But a number of residents have refuted the figures, accusing the KNBS of 'cooking' data at the detriment of locals.
"These figures are funny. They don't add up at all. There is something fishy about them and we demand answers very soon," said Beavon Magare, a youth leader.
Rigoma MCA Benson Sironga called for audit of the results, arguing that the figures do not represent the clear picture on the ground.
"It's not realistic. You can't say that we multiplied by just 7,000 people in a decade. It doesn't add up. We need audit for the same," said the second term MCA.
Nation Media Group journalist Nyambega Gisesa also raised doubts, arguing that the figures were grossly exaggerated by the KNBS.
Mr Gisesa, also a local politician, demanded answers from KNBS, adding that there is a plan to interfere with resource allocations.
"This is a figure that cannot be accepted anywhere. It does not add up at all. There should be a thorough audit to reveal exact figures," he said.
County leaders among them MPs, Governor John Nyagarama, Senator Okong'o Mogeni among others are yet to give a position over the census results.
