Former Isiolo County Woman Representative Tiya Galgalo nomination to the National Land Commission (NLC) hangs in balance over integrity issues.
Members of Parliament have now questioned her suitability for the position after she failed to file returns for the year 2018.
The fate of the former lawmaker, who was nominated by President Uhuru Kenyatta now remains unclear following the new development.
The lands committee has said that it is hard for her to sail through the vetting process if she cannot file returns to show that she is a law abiding Kenyan.
The lawmakers on Friday last week said that the nominee had violated the requirements of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) after she failed to test.
She, however, said that she had not been notified about the tax compliance at the time of application, adding that she is ready to pay a fine of Sh.2000 for each of the years she failed to file the returns as required by law.
“At the time I applied no issues had been raised about my tax compliance status. Never at any time did I acquire the certificate through corruption or any other means,” Ms Galgalo, as quoted by Daily Nation.
The committee has since cleared eight nominees for the positions. The cleared names are Ms Hubbie Al-Haji, Mr Gershom Otachi (Chairman), Alister Mutugi, Reginald Okumu, Kazungu Kambi, Ms Esther Murugi, Prof James Tuitoek and Gertrude Nguku.
