Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna had landed in trouble with the Thirdway Alliance leadership after his mockery of the party leader Ekuru Aukot.
Reacting to the Standard's headline on Friday, which suggested that the Aukot-led Punguza Mizigo bill is headed for defeat, Sifuna suggested that Aukot has been fooling himself.
He suggested that the ex-presidential aspirant was wrong to think that his bill would succeed, which is not the case, apparently in reference to its rejections at the county assemblies.
"This is Hector, the fool who thought he killed Achilles," he said in a tweet that did not go down well with the party Secretary General Frederick Okango.
In response, Okango accused the former Nairobi senatorial hopeful of resorting to abuses to drive his point home, adding that insults are not allowed in politics.
He warned the politician against engaging in such, saying that he still has a long way to go and should, therefore, not make enemies.
"Edwin, why are you insulting Dr Ekuru Aukot? Cant just agree to disagree without insults? Why is Punguza Mizigo Bill 2019 making you this BITTER Omwami? In politics, you don't insult. You just disagree respectfully. You have a long way to go please don't make enemies," said Okango.
The two parties have been involved in a political fight over the referendum push, with ODM pouring cold water on Punguza Mizigo and urging Kenyans to shun it.
Through its leader Raila Odinga, ODM wants Kenyans to embrace the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
Punguza Mizigo seeks to slash elective representation, arguing that this way, the nation can save some of the money currently being used to sustain elected officials.
