High court lawyer Simon Lilan has hit out at a section of politicians saying that their tribes are targeted following the Monday’s arrest of those involved in the Kimwarer and Arror dam’s scandals.
Speaking to the press in Eldoret town on Tuesday, Lilan said those involved in the scandal should carry their cross and should not use their tribe a shield to their evil doings.
“It’s sad that a section of politicians are saying the Kalenjins are being targeted from Monday’s arrests. If the DCI has strong evidence it’s not right to say your community is targeted,” said the high court lawyer.
He said the DPP should make sure the police do a thorough investigation to avoid embarrassment putting people through suffering by dragging them through a trial that does not carry any water.
“What the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) should do is to investigate cases thoroughly to avoid scenarios where people are arrested and that there is no evidence and only arrested for a sideshow,” Lilan added.
He further said that the investigative agency should ensure that before a suspect is arraigned in court there is concrete evidence to avoid someone saying that his or her tribe is being targeted.
This comes after a section of politicians from the deputy president William Ruto led by Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi claimed that their tribes are being targeted in the fight against corruption.
