Ari Askhara faces accusations of failing to declare the importation of the expensive bike.

In doing so, the airline's chief executive officer is said to have avoided paying tax to the tune of USD107,000 (£82,000). The news could not have come at a more fraught time as the airline faces serious questions about its financial situation.

The plot to have the motorbike secretly smuggled into Indonesia using an Airbus joins the ranks of other smuggling incidents to have hit the aviation industry, reports by Bloomberg indicate.

State-Owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir confirmed the incident to members of the press on Friday.

"This process was done completely within a state-owned company, not only by an individual, " he said.

The payment is said to have been done through the Airline's finance manager.

"I am very sad, at the time when we want to improve the image of the state companies and build up their performance, there are people inside who are not ready,” Thohir added.

Ari Askhara who the government is set to sack ascended to his current position in September 2018.
