The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) Legal Services Director Mercy Wanjau has been named its director-general in the acting capacity.
Wanjau replaces Francis Wangusi after his term ends on August 23, 2019.
The new director is expected to continue with the legacy of her predecessor following the expiry of his eight-year tenure.
Wanjau, who once served as a consultant of KPMG South Africa and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) has vast experience in the field of communication.
She is expected to use her skills to transform the authority before a permanent appointment is made.
The appointment has been confirmed by CA Board Chairman Ngene Gituku through a statement released to the media houses on Thursday.
"Ms Mercy Wanjau is a commercial lawyer, a regulatory and governance professional currently working with the Communications Authority of Kenya as the Director Legal Services and Board Secretary. She has been involved in designing and harmonising policy and regulation in the ICT sector at the local, regional and international level for over 15 years," read part of the statement.
Wangusi joined the authority in 2012 after his predecessor Charles Njoroge exited. He will be remembered for introducing a series of innovation before the completion of his tenure in office.
His colleagues have hailed him for his good work following his retirement.
