The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) disciplinary committee on Tuesday summoned eleven branch secretaries of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) from western region over the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
The teachers were summoned for allegedly interrupting with the training sessions during the launch of the program.
The teachers committed the act on April 23, 2019 in the regions in Vihiga, Busia, Kakamega and Bungoma.
The TSC has accused the teachers of inciting others to snub the training sessions as the government embarked on the implementation of a new curriculum for the benefit of the students across the country.
The teachers in question led by their chairman, Mr Patrick Chungani, have affirmed that they will not appear before the disciplinary committee over the matter.
The employer is now expected to seek legal redress after the teachers remained adamant over their appearance before the commission to respond to the charges leveled against them.
Mr Chungani has unveiled their plans to file a case at the Milimani Law Court to challenge the decision of the union to summon them.
“TSC wrote [letters to] show cause why we should not be terminated or be struck off the payroll for inciting teachers and disrupting the training sessions during the launch of the competency-based curriculum in April 2019,” said Mr Chungani.
The teachers had said that they are not answerable to the union and they will not appear before it to speak about the issue as expected of them.
They said that they are following instructions from Knut Secretary-General Wilson Sossion.
