Clients of Nyamache District Hospital in Kisii County have demanded that all workers in the facility be fired for what they said was incompetence and poor sanitation.
In a petition sent to the county government, the clients from the surrounding villages said that the hospital workers had the habit of absconding duty and being rude to patients and want them sacked immediately.
“We are angered by not only chronic absenteeism among the hospital workers, but also the extreme rudeness to patients,” part of the petition read.
The residents are also angered at what they said was the high number of patients who lose their lives at the facility.
“Patients who visit the hospital are at risk of contracting disease because of the lack of proper drainage systems and unclean wards and toilets,” the petitioners said.
The county director of health Dr Geoffrey Otomu dismissed the allegations saying the hospital was ‘one of the best’ in Kisii County.
He said that some workers might be out for training but insisted that never at one time that a patient will miss someone to attend to them.
