This follows revelations that the MP has his roots in Homa Bay County, following revelations that his father Nicholas Obonyo was a native of Kochia in Rangwe, Homa Bay County.

His mother Anjeline Ajwang, it has since emerged, is a native of Ogenga village in Kasipul Kabondo, the same county.

His paternal relatives on Tuesday revealed that the fallen lawmaker's leadership nature runs in the blood, as he is was a grandson to a former powerful chief who served in the colonial era.

According to his cousin and family spokesman Raymond Mbai, Chief Obonyo, the grandfather, ruled for 50 years during the British rule and had a number of women.

Among them, he said, was Okoth's father who died in 1993.

He said that Okoth and his three siblings left for Kasipul after his mother's separation with the father, after which they apparently left for Kibera, Nairobi.

"Some family issues made the parents to separate. The mother moved with all her children to her parents’ home in Kabondo Kasipul,” said Mbai.

Okoth succumbed after a long battle with cancer of the colon on Friday.
