Athletics Kenya will conduct the national championship-cum-trials at Nyayo Stadium between August 20 and August 22.
The winners will present Kenya for the 17th edition of the World Championships slated for Doha/Qatar from September 28 to October 6.
Speaking at the AK office Tuesday, Athletic Kenya president Lt. Gen (Rtd) Jackson Tuwei said that they will use a competition quota for the regions' teams to control the large number of athletes expected to participate in the national/trials championship.
Tuwei noted that no individual athlete will be allowed in the competition is he/she is not affiliated to the 16 AK regions or institutions.
At the same time; only three teams have been invited as guest teams; including refugees camp team, Kenya wildlife service and national youth service team.
Selection criteria of Team Kenya for the World Championships in Doha:
1. One must fulfil the Anti-doping requirements by the AIU (Athletics Integrity Unit) of IAAF. That is a selected athlete to have undergone 3 tests before the selection date.
2. The athlete must obtain the qualifying standards set by IAAF for ones’ event in an IAAF recognized competition from September 7 to October 6, 2019.
"We won't allow any athlete who has not undergone those requirements to come for the trials," reiterated Tuwei.
He added that no athlete will be given a wild card, instead, the winners - first, second and third - across the finish line will be selected.
The AK boss noted that only a few athletes have attained the condition and he urged coaches and athletes to conduct Athlete Kenya HQ to know their status before the trials.
"We won't allow any athlete to come and run for the championship if the conditions are not met," reaffirmed Tuwei.
In addition, Athletic Kenya urged athletes to cooperate as per the Anti-doping test, and update their whereabouts all times.
