Dennis Onyango, the spokesperson to Mr Odinga, welcomed Magoha's decision, calling for more investigations.

"The publicity blitz that accompanied the revoked appointment and the speed with which the new VC hit the ground was a pointer to something wrong, a cover-up of sorts. It was so unlike UoN. Hope someone is held to account," he said.

Education CS Prof George Magoha on Friday revoked the appointment of Kiama, subsequently disbanding the University of Nairobi Council.

Prof Kiama had been given a node by the Julia Ojiambo-led council after allegedly having topped the interviews.

“I take this opportunity to thank the Public Service Commission, Council colleagues, the Ministry of Education, the entire university fraternity and Chancellor for according the recruitment process and respective facilitative instruments and agencies a chance,” said Prof Ojiambo on January 5, 2020.

Recently, details emerged that the council may have appointed someone who did not top interviews, with sources indicating that Prof Bernard Njoroge was the top contestant.

Prof Isaac Mbeche will continue serving as acting Vice-Chancellor until a substantive appointment is made, Magoha said.
