Locals residing in Mai-Mahiu and Moi-Ndabi have been alerted of possible flash floods that the area is prone to. This follows heavy rains that have been witnessed in recent days.
Naivasha disaster management team denoted that the two areas are prone to flash floods that claimed several lives and property destruction in the past.
Mathioya Mbogo who is the Naivasha Sub-county Commissioner told the resident that the national government has set up measures that will enable curb the situation, alerting the residents to take precautions is one of the measures.
He added that they would not see any person suffer this time following what was witnessed in the past. Addressing the press in his office, he denoted that the floods resulted from fault lines, although there has never been a scary incident. Together with his team, they advised residents living in areas with fault lines to shift and look for areas that are safe. Possibly higher ground.
He said that all drivers in the area should be keen when driving through rural roads and seasonal rivers. According to John Mwikabe who is the Kenya Red Cross Society County Coordinator, they have organized 18000 volunteers who will oversee that residents in dangerous areas are taken to safer places.
“We have engaged our response team on the ground who are furnishing us with daily updates as we don’t want to be caught by surprise,” Mwikabe told Kenya News Agency.
He added that they have only received one incident that happened in Molo last week, where a parameter wall collapsed living one family member with injuries.
