Traders at Kibuye market in Kisumu have woken up to a rude shock after a huge inferno invaded their business stalls.
The inferno invaded a section of the market on Wednesday morning burning some of the stores and stalls before Kisumu County firefighters came to the rescue.
The affected traders have now asked the county government of Kisumu to help them.
According to Mary Anyango, a trader, she came to work as usual only to find fire razing the store where she keeps her stuff, adding that none among her stuff was rescued.
The Kisumu City Communication Board director Evans Alalah who rushed to the scene to witness the unfolding lauded Kisumu fire engines fraternity for the quick response which led to containing the inferno which could have spread to other sections of the market causing more harm.
“I thank our firefighters for their quick response. They have managed to contain the fire even though the engines could not access some parts of the markets due to narrow paths but all is well now," said Alalah.
Kevin Akuota, a business operator at Kibuye market also lauded Kisumu fire engines, saying that the county government has shown commitment to people of Kisumu.
“I am happy with the quick response of fire brigades, who have managed to contain the fire in time. Thanks to the leadership of Kisumu county and entire county government who have come to stand with us in this tragic moment,” Akuota said.
