The recently concluded Kibra by-election at least made it clear to Kenyans that politicians have 'bedrooms' away from their homes.
Precisely, it is now clear that Kibra Constituency belongs to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga. Even though he is not in the National Assembly to represent the residents, he commands a huge follower, making Kiba his special 'bedroom'.
More so, bedrooms in politics that not start in Kibra as some Kenyans might think. Back in those days, Former Vice President Jaramogi Oginga Odinga also had his 'bedroom' where he could not allow his political rivals to gain acess in it.
While serving as the Minister for Home Affairs, Jaramogi considered Bulgaria (country in Europe) as his 'bedroom' in that he wanted any sort of support offered to to Kenyan people from it should be in his name.
However, Mr Tom Mboya who was then a political rival with Jaramogi, secured scholarships for Kenyans to advance their studies in Bulgaria.
Mr Joseph Otiende who was the minister in charge of the education docket and a close friend to Mr Mboya supervised the selection process of those to be awarded with the 46 scholarship chances that had been secured.
Selected beneficiaries were to be picked from the airport by Bulgarian plane and their ticks were to be paid by the government of Kenya
When Jaramogi learnt that his rival Mboya had secured scholarships from his own 'bedroom', he made arrangements with his Bulgarian friends and was told to prepare his own list. More so, he was even asked to add nine more names on the list paid their tickets.
When material day came, Mr. Mboya and the ministry of education had presented its 46 members to the airport as it was expected. On the other hand, Jaramogi had shown up at the airport with his list.
After the Bulgarian plan landed in Nairobi, Mboya's list happily made their way into the plane ready to set off of their Bulgaria for their dream courses.
Just before the plan could take off, Jaramogi went to the cockpit and told pilots in charge that they could not take off for what was on their plane was a wrong 'cargo', Nation reports.
A war of words ensured between Jaramogi, Mboya and the ministry of education officials, and when the pilots checked their expected passenger list, it was found that Jaramogi had the right list of names.
Mboya's list were kicked out of the plane to pave way for Jaramogi's, who traveled to Bulgaria for the scholarships
