Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha on Friday warned principals against sending students home over fee arrears.
Speaking during the launch of the Equity Wings To Fly program 2020, the CS insisted that education is a fundamental right of every student and therefore sending them home would amount to the denial of the right.
Magoha directed that all students should remain in school.
"The good government of the Republic of Kenya has certain fee guidelines which everybody shall and must abide with. It is not optional. So let it be made clear that to the headteachers and principals out there, that every child shall be given access to school as required by the government," he stated.
The CS further pointed out that action will be taken against schools that will defy the order and send students home for money.
"If there are financial issues those ones will be discussed later. And if we find that somebody in his stupid wisdom sends the child home for example because the child did not pay for lunch money, then we shall come down on you," Magoha added.
The Wings to Fly program sponsors bright but needy children who achieved high marks in Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) to continue with their secondary education.
