Speaking to journalists on Tuesday in Nyeri town, Wambugu said that Kiunjuri failed to discharge the duties he was given by the President.

He argued that Uhuru appointed Kiunjuri to assist him achieve the Big Four agenda but he deviated from the course leading to his sacking.

He also said that the President has good plans for the country and he expects his team to focus on the same before he completes his second and final term in office.

"The president has a political agenda for the country, which is a development-based political agenda. And the President has been very clear on what he expects the people who support what he will be doing and this year he has even asked us who were elected to support him and he has even challenged some of us to stop doing some things that he doesn't like."

"And now there are those people he has appointed himself to work with him. If he appoints you and then you do not do what he asks you to do unlike us who are elected he can't do much except just physically condemn us publicly he can do something and if you are in his cabinet and you are not doing what he urges you to do of course he is going to release you... Kiunjuri has a right to do what he wants but once he is appointed, you are limited on what to do," he said in part.

On his part, Kiunjuri has affirmed that he served the government with commitment and diligence. He noted that he is leaving the cabinet with his head high because he discharged his duties accordingly.
