Drivers of Modern Coast buses which were involved in an accident at Salama town along Mombasa-Nairobi highway, Makueni County are related.

49-year old Moses Wanjala and 57-year-old Japhfred Lucas Lukasile are from the same clan and hail from neighbouring villages in Kakamega county.

Reports from Citizen TV indicate that the two were friends working as drivers in their home area before being employed by the Modern Coast company.

The families of the two drivers who died in a tragic and coincidental accident have raised complaints against the Modern Coast company citing that it had neglected them.

“We expected the Modern Coast company management to stand with the families following the tragedy but that has not happened,” Grace Isomi, Wanjala's relative told Nation.

The bereaved family members recounted the last time they spoke to their loved ones.

“He spoke to me on Wednesday and sent some money to settle the hospital bills. My son has been supporting me and the family a lot. I don’t know how long I will survive without him,” Julia Museve Mwasame, Wanjala's mother, stated.

“When my husband came home, he was jovial. He had promised to buy his grandchildren school bags and presents for the new year,” Agnes Ongaya, Wanjala's widow, said.

National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) suspended the licenses of the Modern Coast company after the accident that claimed 8 lives and over 60 passengers were left with injuries.
