The witnesses are also set to testify against Waititu’s wife Susan Wangari and eight others who reportedly colluded with him to defraud the county government. The list of the witnesses was revealed by prosecutor Vincent Monda at the Milimani Law Courts on Friday.

While issuing the directions on the case, Magistrate Thomas Nzioka said that the case against the governor will begin on January 21 and run until February 6, 2020. The witnesses list was presented to both the court and the defence lawyers to give them room to prepare for the case before it is heard and determined.

“I will lead evidence in the case against Waititu by providing 68 witnesses to testify in this anti-graft case,” Mr Monda stated, as quoted by Daily Nation.

He also said that the witnesses are ready to present the court with evidence that the governor abused office. The eight other suspects in the graft case are employees of the Kiambu County government.

The governor has attributed his woes to his support for Deputy President William Ruto.
