Police in Garissa County have launched investigations after three people were killed in Garbatula, along the Isiolo-Garissa border.
The three herdsmen were grazing their animals when they were attacked by armed men who stole their camels.
Confirming the incident, Lagdera Deputy County Commissioner Philip Koima said the bandits after stealing the camels took them to Garissa.
The three who were killed during the incident have been identified as 35-year-old Mohamed Ibrahim, 37-year-old Daay Dagane and 32-year-old Mohamed Yunis.
Commissioner Koima said they have launched a manhunt on the suspects who went into hiding in Garissa as they seek to arrest the suspects and recover the stolen animals.
Koima said the police in Garissa are working with their counterparts in Isiolo to recover the stolen animals.
He said they have arrested one suspect while in possession of an AK47 rifle who will assist the police in their investigations.
The suspect currently in police custody will be arraigned in court to answer to murder and livestock theft charges, added the commissioner.
“We have launched an operation to recover the camels. We will also be pursuing the bandits in Garissa,” said Koima as quoted by standardmedia.co.ke.
Lagdera MP Mohamed Hire who condemned the attack accused the government of doing little to ensure the herdsmen are protected.
“They could have posted more security officers in this area to avert the attack. The Government seems to be helpless,” said Hire.
