The gut, in other words, the digestive system is a group of organs which include the mouth, oesophagus, stomach, pancreas, liver, gallbladder, small intestine, colon, and rectum.
It plays essential roles in sustaining and protecting the overall health and wellness of our bodies, starting with the intake and absorption of nutrients and water.
In case you notice the following signs, your gut health could be poor;
1. Food sensitivities
This results when there are difficulties digesting certain foods. It is mostly caused by the poor quality of the bacteria in the gut which in turn lad to diarrhoea, abdominal pain or even nausea.
2.Upset stomach
When you experience gas, bloating, constipation, diarrhoea, and heartburn all these can be signs of an unhealthy gut. Taking a balanced diet and clean meals could ease the problem.
3. Sleep disturbances
Unhealthy gut leads to poor sleep, insomnia and later fatigue. This is because the majority of the body’s serotonin, a hormone that affects mood and sleep, is produced in the gut and therefore damage of the gut can affect your ability to sleep.
4. You often get sick
A huge proportion of the immune system lies in the digestive tract thus when the gut is unhealthy, your body cells will not be able to fight the antigens and this will make you more prone to immune-related illnesses.
5. Skin problems
Unbalanced or unhealthy microbes in your gut results to skin diseases such as eczema, rosacea, dermatitis, acne among others.
