Sleuths arrested Mr Itumbi in connection with alleged assassination plot against DP William Ruto, a matter that widened divisions within the party.

"FLYING SQUAD officers arrest Dennis Itumbi at City Hall, Nairobi; he operates from DP Ruto office as secretary for digital," the Nation confirmed his arrest.

Preliminary investigations show that the assassination letter was fake and was generated by people working in the communication team of the DP.

Over the weekend, DCI George Kinoti confirmed that investigations were on going, refusing to give further details.

“Investigations are still ongoing. I can’t say anything that can jeopardise them,” Mr Kinoti told the Sunday Nation.

But a source within DCI reveled that DP Ruto's two aides in communication team were being sought. Mr Itumbi is among those working in the team.

“Those who wrote the letter are now well-known. Whatever they had in mind has backfired,” said the official.

Besides Itumbi, Mr Emmanuel Talam and David Mugonyi are active members of the communication team. It's now clear who between the two the DCI could be also targeting.

Mr Mugonyi is in charge of the team while Talam is the principal assistant. Sources say that should the team be found culpable, Dr Ruto will kick them out of office.

The letter caused confused forcing four ministers and several Principal Secretaries from Mt Kenya to accuse the DP of harassment and intimidation.
