The new PS for Sports Hon. Joe Okudo will work in coordination with the Sports CS Ms Amb. Amina Mohamed, to ensure delivery for the remaining time in president Uhuru's reign, making his duties somehow less hectic.
The new PS inherits a docket of Sports, Arts and Culture Ministry marred by a lot of incomplete and stalled projects initiated by his predecessors as well as unmet promises for state of art stadiums.
Joe Okudo shifted from Tourism Ministry under the same position and replaced Hon. Kirimi Kaberia who went to Mining Ministry still as the PS.
"I am hopeful that all will be well, and we shall have good working terms together with Okudo in preparation of 2020 Olympics," said Waithaka Kioni, Kenya Volleyball Federation chair.
PS Okudo holds an Arts Degree from University of Nairobi, and a Masters Degree in Business from Copenhagen School of Business. He came in at a time when the Ministry was so busy and having tight schedules with the issue of the forthcoming July to August Olympics in Tokyo Japan which will see over 300 athletes and officials attend.
Additionally, the States capital is also expected to host World Junior Athletes Championship in July, Kenya Open Golf Championship in March as well as Safari Rally in July, leaving Okudo a squeezed PS.
Okudo also has a hard task of arbitrating the government with local sports federation officers who reportedly spent a better part of last year, decrying lack of funds.
"Having accepted him already, and shared our year's budget with the Ministry, I hope for a better working relationship together," said Nick Mwendwa, Football Kenya Federation chair.
Okudo at one time served as PS in the same Ministry but under Arts and Culture, during president Kenyatta's first term. He is optimistic about better working relations with his boss Ms Amina Mohamed, which was not the case with his predecessor.
