Landowners in Uasin Gishu County have dismissed claims by Governor Jackson Mandago that they are busybodies being used by some individuals to reject the proposed land rates.
The landowners argued that they pay rates and should thus be respected for boosting Eldoret town's economy.
“We want to tell the governor that we are not busybodies, the busybodies are CeCs and CEOs surrounding you and giving you the wrong advice and information. This is uncalled for and disrespectful to us,” said Sammy Mukienei.
The landowners made the remarks while addressing journalists outside the Eldoret High Court on Thursday.
“It's not good for a leader of his calibre to utter such words. We elected you to represent us that is before doing anything involving us. You cannot dream of something and in the morning you implement,” said former Mayor Sammy Ruto.
On his part, Kipkorir Menjo said landowners want the implementation of the proposed land rates stopped until consultations and public participation are done so as to include the views of all stakeholders.
He further said that they want to understand how the whole process was done and wondered why some names are missing while others people’s names have been mixed up.
This comes after Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago hit out at a section of landowners for going to court to stop the valuation process before it even started.
