They prisoners were released from the Kodiaga maximum prison and Kibos prison, in a program meant to reduce the number of inmates at the rehabilitation centers.

Those released were serving short sentences, and were set free after under-going a through vetting and probation period.

A Kisumu High Court judge who led the exercise urged those who have been released to change their ways, so that they do not find themselves behind bars again.

"As you go, may you become good citizens out there. May you ensure that next time; you do not come to court again as an accused person. It is better for you to come back as a witness but not as an accused,” he said.

Some of those released promised to be good people in the society.

“I am very happy because I am finally free. Prison is not a good place, I would not like anyone to go there,” one of released prisoners opined.

“I was sentenced to serve nine months in prison but I had only served two months. I am happy to be free. I am now a changed person. Life in Prison is very difficult, I would not like to be back,”another released prisoner said.
