A-23-year old man has died in a road accident along Nairobi- Kangundo Road in Matungulu, Machakos County.
Alex Mutuku died on the spot after he was hit by a lorry at Komarock area on Tuesday night.
An eyewitness told this writer that the deceased was ran over by the vehicle after its driver lost control of it while trying to avoid a man hole on the road.
Matungulu police boss Samuel Mukuusi confirmed the incident.
Mukuusi said the vehicle's driver might had missed the signboard showing that the road is under construction leading to the incident.
"The driver veered off the road to avoid hitting the hole only to hit the pedestrian who was walking on the pathway," Mukuusi said.
He said the driver failed to control the vehicle since he was speeding.
The deceased's body was moved to Kangundo Level Four Hospital as the vehicle towed to Kangundo Police Station.
Mukuusi urged drivers to exercise caution along Nairobi - Kangundo Road due to ongoing road works so as to avoid unnecessary accidents.
He told the contractors working on the road to ensure road signage are correctly displayed in right positions to enable drivers have their visibility in good time.
"The road signs should be put a few metres from the sight, so that drivers can have enough time to reduce speed before reaching the site," Mukuusi said.
