Residents of Mlolongo Town, Machakos have been left in deep shock after a 23-year-old woman was shot dead by thugs at her M-Pesa shop on Tuesday. 

Maurine Mueni, as she was later identified, was shot twice in her chest by a gang of armed robbers while operating her M-Pesa shop on that fateful day. 

Reports indicate that the robbers had earlier on attacked a different M-Pesa shop before leading their way to Mueni’s. 

The group allegedly robbed one Zipporah Ngena of Sh10, 800 after threatening her before they proceed to the deceased’s shop. 

The incident occurred at Dreamland M-Pesa as reported by the Star. 

“A group of three men, one armed with a pistol, went to Dreamland M-Pesa shop, posing as customers. They ordered Ngena to surrender the cash she had,” said one of the witnesses who sought anonymity, as quoted by the Star. 

The witness claimed that after Ngena handed over the money to the thugs they accosted the late Mueni as they were heading to JUTEC Communication. 

He said that Mueni had resisted giving them her money forcing them to open fire and kill her. 

 He further informed the press that the gang ran away without picking anything from the M-Pesa shop after shooting Mueni. 

The woman was rushed to the nearest hospital where she was pronounced dead. Athi River police boss Sharma Wario and AP commander Stephen Matu has confirmed that incident saying investigations are under way.
