The group led by Elder Benard Nyamanya locked the church gate, doors and the pastors' office.

They accused the senior pastor Lawrence Morara of overstepping his mandate, by changing the doctrines of the church.

The group claimed the pastor was operating the church like his personal property, and accused him of misappropriating church funds.

"The pastor and the current church leadership have taken advantage of Christians to enrich themselves," said Nyamanya as quoted by Capital.

They called for the church's headquarters to take action against the pastor, whom they accused of  clinging to power, yet a pastor was supposed to serve for a maximum of four years.

They claimed the pastor has been unable to account for millions of money raised by church members meant for various projects, adding that a total of Sh500,000 was raised to set up a church plaza in Kisii town, but so far nothing has been done.

"Members of the church are not involved in the church affairs and this has been left to the technical committee which is not answerable to the congregation," said the group.

According to Nyamanya, the problem started when the pastor disclosed that he wanted the church to be autonomous so that he can lead it for good.

An attempt by media to get comments from the senior pastor bore no fruits.
