Speaking on Monday in Syokimau, Kalonzo said that leaders should shun the toxic thought of wanting to enrich themselves by vying for elective seats.

He noted that corruption has taken a toll on the country and the president should hasten the fight against graft.

Kalonzo averred that corruption can be tamed by ensuring those found guilty are jailed in a bid to salvage the little funds remaining.

He urged leaders to use their positions to serve Kenyans wholeheartedly.

"We cannot have a country that is full of corruption, theft, you want an elective post so that you can loot and the more you steal, the more you look like the leader people should follow. Please don't look at an elective seat as an opportunity to steal from our people," Kalonzo said.

He noted that in his life, he has never stolen a single penny belonging to the public.

He observed that even in the counties, there is a lot of corruption that is derailing development.

"The change we want to see must begin with us. Graft has increased, it has been devolved from Nairobi to the grassroots. There is a problem in all the counties," he said.

Kalonzo spoke in Syokimau where he had gone to console with Machakos Woman Representative Joyce Kamene after the passing away of his father on Sunday.

Mzee David Makumbi will be laid to rest on August 23 in Mbaani village.
