According to the police, they nabbed a white canter truck fully loaded with contraband ethanol, moments before it passed the entry point.

The consignment comprised of 24 plastic drums, each with 250 litres of the contraband ethanol.

It took the collaboration of the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), Kenya police, Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service, and Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officials to nab the truck.

“Acting on intelligence, our officers managed to intercept the ethanol that was being smuggled into Kenya in a truck suspected to have originated from Uganda,” one of the officials from the multi-agency team said.

The truck driver reportedly noticed that he would be blocked from crossing the border, and decided to run away leaving the automobile at the border.

Police have launched a manhunt for the driver, and other persons involved in the illegal trade.
