Under the leadership of County Secretary Isaiah Ogwe, the county on Friday distributed humanitarian support, including food and water tanks to the affected 578 households.

It was delivered to the victims who are currently camping in Kobuya and Osodo Primary Schools in Karanchuonyo North Sub County.

“This is a new year gift we are presenting to people who were affected by floods. We will proceed to other parts of the county where there are other victims,” said Ogwe.

The victims received rice and beans supplies, part of the Sh2 million that was set aside by Governor Cyprian Awiti's leadership for the purpose.

Ogwe dismissed claims that the county has forsaken its people, given that the support took too long to reach them, blaming it on the "tedious procurement procedures".

The victims are now calling for more aid, saying that the destruction of their crops by the floods has exposed them to famine, crops that were ready for harvesting.

"Destruction of crops in our farms has predisposed us to serious famine. We call upon well-wishers to come to our aid," said Kennedy Ochola who manages Osodo camp.
