Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has mourned the deaths of police officers who lost their lives while on duty in Garissa County on Saturday night.
The officers drawn from the General Service Unit (GSU) perished after their vehicle ran over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on Degoh Road.
At least 10 officers were patrolling the Kenyan border with Somalia and the IED is suspected to have been planted by Al-Shabaab militants.
Taking to social media to send his condolences, Matiang'i said the nation remains unbowed in its fight against terror.
"I extend my deepest sympathies and profound solidarity with the families of our gallant officers who lost their lives in Garrisa last night. Their selfless patriotic sacrifice to serve Kenya renews our resolve in the fight against terror. Kenya remains unbowed," Matiang'i tweeted on Sunday.
Through its official Twitter handle, the Ministry of Interior also mourned the deaths of the GSU officers terming the news of their passing as saddening.
"We are greatly saddened by news of the loss of our galant police officers during a heinous attack in Liboi, Garissa Along Damajale - Harhar Road last night. As we grieve and share the loss with the families of the bereaved, our resolve against terror remains unshaken and emboldened," read the tweet.
